Warcraft Notes

My Story

My name is Nate IRL and Eternalfire in World of Warcraft. I have been playing WoW since the middle of 2007, when I was 17 years old. Out of all the video games I have played in the last 16 years, World of Warcraft is the game that I always come back to and enjoy.

From being a guild master and raid leader to a mythic+ keystone pusher, I have also grown to love achievement hunting and collecting in World of Warcraft.

I started the YouTube channel “Eternalf1r3” seven years ago during the Legion Pre-patch in WoD. This was done mainly out of curiosity to create content, and a desperate attempt to get out of working overtime in a hospital job that I hated.

I realized I was able to make guide videos about World of Warcraft that people were connecting with and were able to understand. It was really exciting to see my channel slowly start to grow. I was creating class guides mainly, but also achievement guides, as well as simple things like how to set up mouseover macros.

I started creating more and more content and pretty soon YouTube offered a partnership that basically allows me to monetize my content and make some money from the ad revenue.

I made my first dollar online.

I still remember the day when I made my first dollar online from ad revenue on YouTube. I also remember the day when my wife was like, “Babe? What is this $100 from YouTube about?” She was pretty excited for me, and I have to say she has been my biggest supporter since I began my online journey.

I felt rich. I was hooked, not only on the game and the actual reality that money can be made online, but that perhaps, by a slim chance, I could someday give up the hospital job that was slowly breaking my body, and wearing on my mental health.

I continued creating content and got pretty good at something called SEO or search engine optimization. Basically, how do I get my videos to rank above other people creating the same type of content?

My channel grew to a few thousand subscribers and I was consistently making around $100-200 dollars a month in ad revenue.

With the amount of time I was starting to put into creating content with my YouTube channel, I needed to be making more money than I was.

To give some perspective, I am married with kids, like a lot of people who still love and play WoW, all these years later. We all started playing WoW as kids and now most of us are in our late twenties and early thirties. I value my time with my family so I started playing WoW less as our family grew.

Something had to change.

I could not continue the cadence of content I had started to pump out in the later part of the Legion expansion, and I knew something had to change. Although my channel was growing steadily, I wasn’t making enough money on my YouTube channel to justify the time commitment it took.

Something had to change.

That’s when I caught my lucky break. Remember I said I hated my hospital job? Well one of the many reasons was because one of my responsibilities was helping lift very heavy people everyday. This caused me to have back problems. I had a great chiropractor that I would see and he was always able to whip me back into shape.

One day while visiting him, he asked if I had a YouTube channel called Eternalf1r3.

I was shocked.

It turns out he also played WoW, found my YouTube channel, and thought my guides were helpful. He recognized my voice and thought he would ask. I confirmed it was indeed my channel, and he confirmed he had been following me for a while.

Then it happened.

He told me he was impressed with the growth of my channel in the recent months, and asked if I would promote his chiropractic office online like i did my channel.

Again, I was shocked!

This guy offered to pay me on a monthly basis to help make his chiropractic office more visible online. He also said he knew I would be learning on his dime and wanted to give me a shot.

This was so unreal to me, not only was I making a small amount of money to create WoW videos, but now because of that, someone wanted to pay me to work on their online presence.

After this conversation, I spent every free moment (mainly at night time after the kids were in bed) studying what I discovered was called digital marketing, social media marketing, search engine optimization, web design, you name it. I was reading and watching videos on everything I could get my hands on.

I created my first website on Wix, and later moved it to WordPress, which I still love using to build websites on today.

Fast forward 5 years, I now do web design and digital marketing full-time for myself from home. And yes! The chiropractor who first gave me a chance is still a happy customer!

Why am I creating this content on Warcraft Notes?

These days I rarely upload YouTube videos. There are times where all I do in WoW is solo play achievement hunting and mount collecting. I basically play WoW very casually, to relax and enjoy the world of Azeroth I’ve invested so much time into over the years.

I work with around 30 different companies promoting them online in different capacities, all done from home.

But there is something missing, I love helping other businesses grow and increase their online presence, and I am so damn thankful for the opportunity to work from home and be around my family all of the time. But when I create content for my clients, it’s not content I am genuinely passionate about. For instance, I recently wrote a really comprehensive guide on how variable speed pool pumps will save a lot of money on your electric bill. Cool, but not my personal interest!

For some reason when I create a guide for an achievement in World of Warcraft, write the guide, record the video, and after all is said and done, hit publish, it just makes me happy.

I created this website to document that journey of achievement hunting and collecting in WoW as an outlet for me, and hopefully helps other people understand how to do that content in the game as well.

Have a question?

I love helping people figure out how begin their journey to making money online. If you have an idea or question about starting out for yourself, shoot me a message. Maybe you have a business that you would like to promote online, I would love to talk with you about that as well! Cheers.
